Anti-semitism is baked into Islam, but is the anti-semitism I see in my rich, white Toronto students have any suicidal leanings? I think it's more TikTok and the slow death of critical thinking. Oppressor / oppressed is just really, really neat and tidy and easy.
I was disappointed in Poor Things, too. I appreciate that those making it clearly wanted to do more than just a by-the-numbers Oscar-bait period piece, and I appreciated the film's upfront sexuality; but it definitely felt like a dumbed-down version of itself, even before I found it was based off a book; and I especially disliked the ending, which managed to be both utterly illogical and deeply disgusting in character behavior, and even more loathsome on a symbolic level.
If I'm going to hate both the characters and the creators, I'd at least like it to be for reasons that make sense within the narrative itself.
